GMIAA Awards & Recognition

The Georgia Military Institute Alumni Association (GMIAA) is proud to sponsor an annual awards program designed to honor those who have brought distinction to themselves, our Association, and the enduring legacy of the Georgia Military Institute.

We currently recognize excellence through two distinct honors: The GMIAA Hall of Fame, celebrating lifetime career achievement, and The Distinguished Service Order of Francis W. Capers, honoring dedicated internal service to the Association and the Corps of Cadets.

Both awards are presented annually each August at the GMI Commissioning Ceremony, held at the JFHQ Clay National Guard Base Drill Hall in Smyrna, GA.

Awards

The GMIAA Hall of Fame

The Hall of Fame represents the highest level of recognition for professional and lifetime achievement. It honors alumni and cadre whose outstanding military careers, leadership qualities, and public service have brought exceptional national or state prestige to the GMI legacy.

The Distinguished Service Order of Francis W. Capers

The Order of Francis W. Capers is the Association’s premier decoration for internal service. It is awarded to the dedicated individuals who serve as the backbone of our organization—those who have rendered exceptional, sustained, and sacrificial service to the GMIAA, preserved our rich history, or provided unwavering support to the current Officer Candidate School (OCS) program.

  • Focus: Internal Service, Legacy Preservation, and Support of the Corps.

  • Nomination Deadline: End of June (Note: A $25 nominal fee applies to submissions to cover the cost of the award).
