Distinguished Service Order
of Francis W. Capers

While our Hall of Fame recognizes professional and public achievement, the Distinguished Service Order of Francis W. Capers is the Association’s premier decoration for internal service. It honors those who have rendered exceptional, sustained, and sacrificial service to the GMIAA and the preservation of the "Old Battalion" legacy.
 

How to Nominate To submit a nomination, please compile the following:

  • Nominee Details: Full name, contact information, and a summary of their involvement with the Association or the OCS program.

  • Letter of Recommendation: A detailed, persuasive letter highlighting their dedicated service, organizational leadership, historical preservation efforts, or unwavering support of the current Corps of Cadets.

  • Nomination Fee: A nominal fee of $25 is required with each submission. This fee goes directly toward offsetting the cost of manufacturing the physical neck medallion and presentation materials. (contact Dr. Jimenez at info@gmialumni.com for payment methods)


Criteria for Award This Order is not an entitlement based on rank or career prestige, but a recognition of hard work. Nominees must meet at least one of the following "Service" criteria:

  • Organizational Leadership: Rendered exceptional and sustained service on the Board of Directors or committees, resulting in significant advancement of the Association’s operations or financial health.

  • Legacy Preservation: Made significant contributions to recording, restoring, or promoting the history and traditions of the Georgia Military Institute.

  • Direct Support to the Corps: Provided sustained mentorship, instruction, or material support to the current Officer Candidate School (OCS) program.


Submission Details & Deadline

  • Deadline: Submit all required documentation by end of June.

Award Presentation Individuals selected for The Order are asked to attend the annual GMI Commissioning Ceremony this August to be formally presented with their neck medallion. The ceremony will be held at the JFHQ Clay National Guard Base Drill Hall (1000 Halsey Ave, Smyrna, GA, 30080).
